Clair
Baca, 28, was born and raise in Southern California. After
graduating with Bachelors degrees in English and Philosphy
from the University of La Verne in 1998, she met her husband
Kevin Baca.
Clair and Kevin found out in April of 2000 that they were,
quite expectedly, going to have a baby. They bought
a home in Chino and prepared for the arrival of their
daughter. However, on December 14, 2000 their daughter,
Riley Simone Baca was stillborn in Claire's 43rd week
of pregnancy due to a post-date pregancy and negligence
on the part of the doctor who had overseen Clair's pregnancy.
In the midst of their grief, Clair and Kevin Decided
to sue the doctor responsible for Riley's Death in the
interest of justice for their beloved daughter.
In the summer of 2002, the case was settled in favor of
Clair and Kevin.
Losing Riley also spurred Clair and Kevin into action.
Clair began working with the group Pain-Heartache-Hope
to have October 15 recognized as Pregnancy & Infant
Loss Remembrance Day with much success. She worked with
this organization from 2001-2004. Additionally,
in 2001 Clair & Kevin also began working with the
National Sillbirth Society to promote awareness and research
for the stillbirth cause. Clair & Kevin continue to
serve as Co-Directors for the State of California for
the NSS.
On June 23, 2004 Clair gave birth to the couples' second
child, and Riley's little brother, Jonah Adrien Baca. |
